SALTAIRE

Built by Sir Titus Salt for his workers, this village is an architectural gem with its back to back terraces, Unitarian Church and Salt’s Mill which houses a gallery of Bradford born and internationally renowned artist, David Hockney.

BRONTE COUNTRY

Visit Thornton where the sisters were born. Haworth, where father, Patrick Bronte was vicar and where the three sisters gained their inspiration for the masterpieces of literature. See the bleak moors and the Bronte Waterfall. Ride on the Haworth and Worth Valley Railway to experience the golden age of steam.

HARROGATE and KNARESBOROUGH

Harrogate the elegant spa town. Take the waters, shopping galore, enjoy the Valley Gardens and take tea at the hotel where Agatha Christie stayed. Knaresborough with its Norman Castle, boating on the River Nidd see the Petrifying Well where Mother Shipton lived or buy a bargain at the weekly market.

SELBY

On the American Heritage trail, see the Washington Family’s stars and stripes. Visit the Abbey where Henry 1st was born, a Norman masterpiece. Shop at the Monday market.

HULL and the COAST

Hull: Explore this bustling city with a history of sea faring. Delve into the Deep the seaquarium. Find out about William Wilberforce one of Hull’s famous sons. Travel over the famous Humber Bridge which spans the River Humber. The Coast with such a variety of landscapes, see historic Whitby associated with Captain James Cook and Dracula not forgetting the best fish and chips in the world. Scarborough and Bridlington with their working harbours and golden beaches, not forgetting donkey rides. Filey, with safe bathing and rock pooling on the famous Brig. BIRD WATCHING

Visit Yorkshire Nature Reserves to observe Wildlife eg Blacktoft Sands, Fairburn Ings, Harewood, Old Moor and Bempton Cliffs.

HERRIOT COUNTRY

Visit Darrowby to experience the James Herriot Museum. Enjoy the beautiful views from Sutton Bank or perhaps, purchase a piece of Mouseman woodwork at Kilburn or see where Lawrence Sterne, author of Tristram Shandy lived.

LEEDS

Exciting Cosmopolitan City with shops galore including Harvey Nicholls and Vivien Westwood. The Royal Armouries containing the National Collection of arms and armour. The Thackeray Medical Museum not for the squeamish.
